The mental health condition that is called adjustment disorder is also commonly referred to by many people as situational depression. This is simply because the individuals who suffer from this disorder commonly display depression symptoms such as feelings of hopelessness, tearfulness, and a decreased interest in activities or even their job. Some symptoms of situational depression 

There are a wide variety of symptoms that a person may experience if they are suffering from the condition that is known as situational depression, otherwise known as adjustment disorder. Some of the symptoms this condition can cause would include the following.

  • Constant worry
  • The feelings of hopelessness
  • Headaches
  • An increase in the amount of drug or alcohol use
  • Stomachache
  • A lack of energy and feeling tired
  • Sadness
  • Having difficulty sleeping
  • Crying that occurs frequently
  • Appetite changes – Either eating more than normal or completely losing an appetite
  • Nervousness or anxiety
  • Behavior that is destructive such as vandalism, driving recklessly, and fighting
  • Heart palpitations or irregular heartbeat that may feel like the beating of the heart is forced
  • Missing school or work
  • Becoming withdrawn from social events or school activities and friends

In teenagers and children, you may distinctly notice behavioral changes, whereas adults usually tend to show changes emotionally.

This is a common disorder that can affect individuals of all ages, and at any time. It is, however, usually triggered by a major event, and goes away once the individual has adjusted to the situation.
