Can depression cause weight gain?

Simply having the condition that is commonly known as depression is not a condition that can cause an individual to start gaining weight. However, ending up with the problem of starting to gain extra pounds that a person might experience after they have been diagnosed with having this condition, is a problem that comes from some of the other factors that go along with having this frustrating condition.

There are some individuals that suffer from depression that does not have much of an appetite at all, and many people who end up eating very little because of the lack of an appetite. However, there are also a large number of people with depression that end up eating more food than they should, which will ultimately begin to start adding pounds onto their weight.

Changes in the normal diet are very common with this condition. Another problem that some people experience is that some of the prescription medications that are prescribed for this condition can also cause an individual to gain weight. To ensure that you do not end up gaining an excess amount of weight, it is important to make sure you include healthy foods in your daily diet.
