Cognitive Therapy and Depression |
Cognitive therapy is a form of psychotherapy. In this method of therapy the depression patient is encouraged to change their view about things that they may be negative about. At times people start taking some things for granted and start taking those things as the absolute truth. This kind of a thinking leads to depression in certain people.
By changing the way in which people think, their mind set and thought process is made more positive. By means of the cognitive therapy people see things in a new perspective and by the power of thinking right the problem of depression can be overcome. Cognitive therapy mainly targets the way in which the mind perceives different situations and attempts to correct the thinking in cases of misconceptions or apprehensions.
An attempt is made to make the mind believe that one situation can also be seen from a brighter point of view and that those situations are not always as bad as they may seem to be. The success rate of cognitive therapy depends mainly on the patients’ initiative to think in a more positive way. If the patient is able to change their own perspective then the chances are more that the cognitive therapy would be a more successful cure for depression.
