What Are the Dangers Associated with Antidepressants?

It’s true that depression medicines which are commonly known as antidepressants have helped millions of people all over the world. But one must also know about the potential dangers associated with it.

According to studies, some of the antidepressants like SSRI-type depression medicines have relation with violence, sleeping problems and suicidal thoughts. Even in case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia these medicines have been helpful to millions of people. But as per the recent study, use of these medicines in a few cases has led to serious problems or side effects. Some of them include failure to treat depression, more severe symptoms like anxiety and insomnia and increased risk of suicidal thoughts.

After detailed analysis some of the serious side effects of antidepressants were found which included dry mouth, lower sex drive, constipation, weight gain, nightmares, increased heart beat, loss of appetite etc.

In some cases side effects like fever, cardiac problems, liver problems and kidney problems were even noted. As per the FDA several publications and scientific studies suggest that antidepressants show increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior. This led to mandatory warning labels on all antidepressant drugs disclosing the risks of suicidality. It is therefore necessary to keep in mind the dangers that are associated with antidepressants.
