Is there a genetic link to depression?

There is a long list of medical conditions and illnesses that have been proven to have a genetic link to the parents of an individual that ends up suffering from the same conditions or illnesses that their parents may suffer from.

There have been a large amount of different studies and research projects that have shown that depression is also a medical condition that can be passed onto children of parents that suffer from the symptoms that depression is so commonly known to cause. If an individual has one parent that has been diagnosed with this condition, then they have a higher risk of also being diagnosed with the condition. In an individual who has both parents that have been diagnosed with depression, then the individual is at a much higher risk than the average person would be from being diagnosed with the condition.

The positive thing to remember is that continuous advancements being made in the medical field are constantly making new drugs that are very effective in treating this condition. There are also many alternative treatments that prove to be effective in treating the symptoms of depression.
