Parnate generally belongs to the classes of substituted phenethylamine and amphetamine. Parnate is also called as tranylcypromine or as jatrosom. Parnate acts as a monoamine oxidize inhibitor. Parnate is a non – selective and it is considered as an irreversible inhibitor of enzyme monoamine oxidizes.
Parnate is generally used for treatment of depression, anxiety disorders and mood. It is used as an antidepressant and anxiolytic agent.
Parnate is considered as an analogue of amphetamine. It was first discovered in the year 1948, but the action of monoamine oxidize inhibitor was discovered in the year 1959.
Parnate drug was introduced by smith, Kline and French in the united kingdom in 1960, and soon its was approved by the United States in the year 1961.But this drug has to see failure after a few years due to a number of patients facing death involving hypertensive crises and internal bleeding due to which this drug was withdrawn in the market in February 1964. The antidepressant was soon re-introduced in to the market with some specific warnings.
Parnate drug is mainly used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. And also as the main drug to resolve or change the patient mood and anxiety disorders.
