Are there side effects that can occur when taking depression medication?

While taking depression medication it is common to experience some side effects. A lot of patients experience side effects while on depression medication. Some of the side effects are quite common and should not be a cause of worry, however some side effects are rare and a doctor should be consulted if such rare side effects are experienced.

Some of the common side effects are nervousness, anxiety, loss of appetite, stomach upset or nausea, drowsiness, sweating and headache, weakness and tiredness, shaking, trembling and lack of sleep. Some other common side effects that can occur are skin allergies or rashes, cold, fever and chills and joint or muscle pains.

Some uncommon side effects caused by depression medication, which require medical attention are abnormalities in vision or taste, slow or irregular digestion, dizziness, redness or excessive heat in the body, drying of the mouth, increased urination and high appetite, sensitivity of skin towards sunlight gets increased, stomach ache and gas problems. Apart from these problems, some other side effects include highly intense skin allergies, seizures or convulsions, experiencing low blood sugar, difficulty to concentrate, draining out of energy, breathing trouble, unusual bodily movement, lack of control on mind, confusion and anxiety etc.
