If you think that yourself, a close friend, or one of your family members may be showing some of the signs that are common in individuals that are suffering from the condition that is known as depression, it can be extremely helpful to become familiar with those that are most common. Being able to pinpoint the signs of depression can help a great deal when an individual makes an appointment with a family health care provider. Below you will find some of the most common signs that an individual can experience if they are suffering from depression.

  • Fatigue
  • Moods that seem to be ‘empty’
  • Problems with being irritable
  • Having a hard time with making decisions
  • Problems with being able to concentrate
  • Suicidal thoughts, or thoughts of death
  • Physical symptoms such as aches and pains
  • Abnormal sleeping pattern – either sleeping too much or not enough
  • Insomnia
  • No longer having the ability to have fun and enjoy activities with close friends, members of their family, or any type of social function
  • Feeling guilt
  • Feelings of worthlessness or helplessness
