Depression and the symptoms that it can cause an individual to suffer is becoming one of the largest medical conditions that all walks of people face, and it has caused a large number of suicide attempts that affects many people. No matter what the age or sex of a person may be, this is a condition that can affect children, teenagers, adults, and those of the elderly generation.

This is a condition that even affects children in pre-school age groups. A variety of research that has been performed on the facts of depression has shown that as many as 9 ½ percent of people in the United States suffer from the symptoms of some form of depression.

These would include bipolar disorder, dysthymic disorder, and major depression. Other developed countries have 15 percent of the population affected by depression, and of those, 30 percent is of the female gender. It is very unfortunate but there is as many as 80 percent of all persons that is suffering from depression that are not receiving any type of treatment for the condition, and the reason for as many as 40 percent of those is because of feelings of embarrassment.
