Over the past few years, teenage depression is a serious condition that has consistently been on the rise, and the number or teens suffering from this condition continues to show an increase every year, with as many as 1 in 8 teenagers who end up suffering from the symptoms of depression. Although each of the below symptoms may not always be that easy to detect, it is very important for the parents of teens to be on the look out for each of the teenage depression symptoms.
- Fearing death or suicidal thoughts because of a sudden interest in death
- A depressed mood that is persistent
- Trouble making decisions and lacking the ability to concentrate
- Alcohol or drug abuse
- An avoidance of social activities or interests that are normally appealing
- Aching muscles and headaches
- Relationships failing with friends and family members
- A change in normal eating habits
- Sleeping habits changing, either too little or too much
- Thoughts and behaviors that are negative and out of character
- Feelings of despair and hopelessness
Noticing these changes longer than two weeks can be serious and an appointment should be made with your physician.
