The ideal dosage of Sarafem for the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder is 20 mg per day. The drug should be taken, without fail, at least 14 days prior to the onset of the menstrual cycle. The dosage should be continued until the second day of the menses.
Ideally the recommended concentration of 20 mg should be repeated for consumption with every new cycle. However, it is better to consult a specialist to learn the right concentration, in accordance with the physical condition of every individual. In certain cases, women are suggested to take a higher concentration of 60 mg of the drug for immediate relief from PMS. However, it is essential to never exceed the total intake to more than 80 mg in one day.
On other hand, women already taking to varied medicinal treatments of ailments are suggested to take comparatively lower concentration of Sarafem. However, those suffering from severe diseases like liver damages, renal diseases, kidney diseases, or Concomitant Illness may be strictly dissuaded from the consumption of this drug.
The treatment with the concentration of the drug, 20 mg/day, may extend to a span of 6 months among healthy women. The rest suffering from forms of ailments may be recommended to continue the treatment with the same for 3 months.
