There are numerous ways of treating depression. The most common methods of treating depression include psychotherapy, in this method the patient’s pattern of thought is focused on. The patient is encouraged to think on a more positive note. In cases where the depression is on a high level, when the patient poses a threat to their own self or to others, then hospitalization may become necessary. This method will help more because the patient would be under observation on a continuous basis. Antidepressants are another option for depression patients; these are prescription drugs that are consumed to keep the body and hormones in control.
Depression should not be left untreated. If depression is not treated in the initial stages then there are chances that it may turn into a serious mental illness. Depression leads to sadness, disinterestedness, detached approach towards day to day activities, isolation and even suicidal tendencies. If depression is left untreated it may result in a major health threat leading even death. Depression is not only dangerous to the patient but even to the people around the patient; hence if it is not treated before becoming advanced then it may pose a threat to life of the patient as well as others.
